in Nelida Fuccaro, Mandana Limbert (eds), Life Worlds of Middle Eastern Oil: Histories and Ethnographies of Black Gold, Edinburgh: University of Edinburgh Press 2023, 57–86.

This book chapter is dedicated to the history of photography of the Arabian Peninsula in the context of geological oil expeditions in the early 20th century. The article analyzes archival and popular visual sources that have received little attention to date, tracing the relationship between sensory perception and photographic documentation of oil prospecting and later, oil urbanization.
