Public lecture as part of the series "Making Art for Whom?", HEAD, Geneva
HEAD Genève will welcome Ceren Özpınar, Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Brighton as part of the lecture series Making Art for Whom?. Özpınar will give a presentation based on her most recent monograph, Art, Feminism, and Community: Feminist Art Histories from Turkey, 1973-1998 (Oxford University Press and British Academy, 2024).
Making Art for Whom? is a lecture series organized by the Visual Arts Department at HEAD – Geneva. It invites artists, researchers, and curators to question the various forms of engagement through art practices. Making art always involves forms of resistance and resilience, whether through the individual commitment of the artist in their work or through collective strategies. Making Art for Whom? explores the diversity of critical stances that respond to the geopolitical and ecological urgencies shaking our contemporary world. The series aims to reflect on the different approaches, practices, strategies, formats, and audiences involved in the question of who we make art for, and why? through a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives.
