Fausses routes et chemins de traverse : les récits de l’histoire de l’art arabe
7 June 2025
Château de Fontainebleau - Serlio Vestibule, France, 5–6 pm
Conversation at the Palace of Fontainebleau, France, 5–6 pm
Two specialists in modern and contemporary Arab art will engage in a dialogue about the “falsehoods” that haunt their discipline: translation errors, inaccessible sources, approximate citations, and founding myths. How have these misunderstandings shaped our understanding of art from the Arab world (20th-21st century)? Exploring the potential of counterfactual reasoning, their conversation will reveal how these shadowy areas can become tools for rethinking the writing of art history.
