6th Swiss Congress on Art History & the 50th Anniversary of the ASHHA
Manazir organizes the session “The Archive as Imperative” at the 6th Swiss Congress on Art History and the 50th Anniversary Conference of the ASHHA
Manazir is pleased to organize the session “The Archive as Imperative: Approaches in the History of Art and Architecture in the Middle East and North Africa” as part of the Conference of the Swiss Association of Art Historians (ASHHA), held in collaboration with the Art History Unit at the University of Geneva. The conference will take place from 7–9 September 2026 at Uni Mail, University of Geneva.
The session examines how archives shape the histories of art and architecture in the Middle East and North Africa. Often dispersed, fragile, censored, or destroyed, archives play a critical role in defining the contours of research and the writing of fragmented histories, particularly in a region marked by ongoing conflicts and displacement. Bringing together scholars and practitioners, the session explores the archival practices, networks, and narratives that inform our understanding of the past while opening new perspectives for the future.
Participants wishing to attend the session are kindly reminded to register through VKKS. Further information on the registration and the conference programme is available through the congress website.
